Guest Coach Bruce Palmer runs a world class session for Basketballtek Academy

The Brian Kerle Basketballtek Academy has had the great pleasure this week to have Coach Bruce Palmer attend the Academy and run a session with our players.  The sessions that Bruce conducts are world class and it is a pity that Australia has lost his talents to China where he is head coach at a large Basketball Academy in Dongguan with affiliations to the NBA.

He focused extensively on defense; lateral movement, pressure, positioning and communication.  Offensively he ran drills to reinforce receiving the ball in a shooting position, setting and using screens, followed on by movement with and without the ball in a 4 on 4 situation.  The students absolutely loved the session.

Bruce and I go way back in basketball when we played against each other in Melbourne in the VBA competition in the 70's.  We then coached against each other in the NBL where he coached the North Melbourne Giants to an NBL title in 1989.  He received Coach of the year awards in 2009, 2005, 2004, 1988, 1986 and was a 3 time all-star coach.  Bruce teamed up with me at the Bullets in 1998/99 season where I learnt so much from him about coaching.

Next week Bruce has offered to return to the Academy for another session.  All coaches are welcome to come along and watch or even video the session.  Spread the word.  Date yet to be determined so keep an eye out at Basketballtek Academy Key Dates.

I am very grateful to have such a talented coach help our students.

Brian Kerle.
