Walking in their shoes - Pine Rivers Press

PUPILS DONATE FOOTWEAR by Bernie Dowling

INDIGENOUS children from the Brian Kerle Basketball Academy will be playing in sports shoes donated by pupils from Bray Park’s Holy Spirit School. Bray Park mum Amy Lockwood runs Take The Lead Pet Care & Dog Walking Services, and got to thinking about walking and the international charity Shoes for Planet Earth. The organisation distributes used shoes to homeless shelters and the less fortunate.

Holy Spirit pupils took to the idea and wore their sports shoes to the last day of school to donate. They went home in bare feet or thongs. Mrs Lockwood’s son Jack is in Year 2 at the school. “It is a good idea so everyone will have shoes so they won’t hurt themselves or get glass in their feet,” Jack said. Legendary former Brisbane Bullets coach Brian Kerle conducts his basketball program for indigenous children.

A message from Brian.
Brian Kerle Basketball Academy would like to thank Viv and her staff at Shoes for Planet Earth and Amy Lockwood for their support for my Indigenous not for profit program and helping homeless people with these shoes. Without their help I would not be able to bring the smiles to the faces of the less fortunate when they receive the shoes. Thank you Amy, Viv and all your staff.
