 Embracing 2018
 Embrassing 2018

What is Get Out, Get Active?

The Get Out, Get Active program provides funding for projects that will deliver community-based sport and recreation activities that increase opportunities for participation by women and girls who are either currently inactive, or would otherwise benefit from further participation.

Previously, Get Out, Get Active funding has been provided to councils to improve women’s and girls’ sport and active recreation opportunities. In partnership with the Office of the Commonwealth Games, Round 3 has been expanded to include a new category of not-for-profit sport and recreation organisations. This has been made available through the Embracing 2018 Legacy Program for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Objectives

The objectives of Get Out, Get Active are to:

  • provide enjoyable, accessible and affordable activities aimed at increasing sport and active recreation participation of inactive women and girls
  • facilitate sport and active recreation projects that encourage innovation and partnerships that meet the needs of inactive women and girls
  • improve the sport and active recreation experiences of women and girls to encourage a culture of life-long participation.

Get Out, Get Active Success Stories

Read about some of the great initiatives that were funded under previous rounds of the program.  Get Out, Get Active community initiatives.

The Queensland Government, through the Embracing 2018 Legacy Program for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, provided $40,000 to Community Sports Mentoring and Coaching to run Get Out Get Active with Basketball to get women and girls active for life.

Some feedback so far

Absolutely loved it.  The coaches are very welcoming and supportive.  If youre free and wanting something new to do definitely come along

Today my sister-in-law & I attended the first Coaching Clinic at Logan Metro. We are older ladies, ex netballers wanting to learn how to play Basketball. We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the coaches were very supportive, helpful & understanding. The other ladies attending, whilst much younger than us were friendly & encouraging. Whilst we are unable to attend next week be assured we will be back for more fun & to learn more skills. Many thanks to everyone. See you all again very soon!

First session was fantastic!!! Fun learning alongside women wanting to be more active. My highlight was learning to shoot properly and meeting new people, and free daycare for my baby. Thanks team!!!

Today's women's basketball clinic was awesome. It was daunting going onto the court, not knowing if I could still shoot a ball after all these years. If you were a beginner or a old veteran on the court Brian and his team made us all feel comfortable. Learning new skills or dusting off your old one's the love of basket ball and friendship was definitely felt today and look forward to many more.

I am an absolute basketball beginner so I was a bit scared but I always make excuses not to do things for myself. This was actually really fun and liberating since they have free childminding. It was awesome being active, learning something new and meeting new people. I hope we have even more beginners join in too:) Thanks Brian, Dan and Maddy

I thoroughly enjoyed the FREE women's basketball clinic today @ Logan Metro, first time being involved with the sport, Im looking forward to the future sessions. Thank you Brian Kerle for organising this.

The women's get active session was amazing! I have not enjoyed myself like that in a very long time. Playing basketball with other like minded women and mums is so much more fun than always sitting on the sideline.

I wasn’t sure what to expect as I had never played basketball before. I was amazed by the entire 2 hour session. Loads of fun for all levels, very inclusive, with a great atmosphere. Can’t wait until the next session!!!!

I really hope to see these programs running again next year. I am learning new skills and fine tuning others that are a bit sloppy. All done in a friendly and fun environment.

Fun, exciting, great to make new friends, coaches and trainers friendly and accomadating, great way to learn basketball skills

Thank you for this awesome program! I had a blast!

Had such a great time at the 2hour basketball session, Brian & his team have done a wonderful job, babysitting was all sorted for those few hourS, which took that extra stress off. My heart pumped so hard & fast, I haven't felt like that since I was a kid. Thankyou Brian Kerle & his team, looking forward to more training sessions.
