What is Get Out, Get Active?
The Get Out, Get Active program provides funding for projects that will deliver community-based sport and recreation activities that increase opportunities for participation by women and girls who are either currently inactive, or would otherwise benefit from further participation.
Previously, Get Out, Get Active funding has been provided to councils to improve women’s and girls’ sport and active recreation opportunities. In partnership with the Office of the Commonwealth Games, Round 3 has been expanded to include a new category of not-for-profit sport and recreation organisations. This has been made available through the Embracing 2018 Legacy Program for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The objectives of Get Out, Get Active are to:
- provide enjoyable, accessible and affordable activities aimed at increasing sport and active recreation participation of inactive women and girls
- facilitate sport and active recreation projects that encourage innovation and partnerships that meet the needs of inactive women and girls
- improve the sport and active recreation experiences of women and girls to encourage a culture of life-long participation.

Absolutely loved it.
The coaches are very welcoming and supportive.
If youre free and wanting something new to do definitely come along
Today my sister-in-law & I attended the first Coaching Clinic at Logan Metro. We are older ladies, ex netballers wanting to learn how to play Basketball. We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the coaches were very supportive, helpful & understanding. The other ladies attending, whilst much younger than us were friendly & encouraging. Whilst we are unable to attend next week be assured we will be back for more fun & to learn more skills. Many thanks to everyone. See you all again very soon!
First session was fantastic!!! Fun learning alongside women wanting to be more active. My highlight was learning to shoot properly and meeting new people, and free daycare for my baby. Thanks team!!!
Today's women's basketball clinic was awesome. It was daunting going onto the court, not knowing if I could still shoot a ball after all these years. If you were a beginner or a old veteran on the court Brian and his team made us all feel comfortable. Learning new skills or dusting off your old one's the love of basket ball and friendship was definitely felt today and look forward to many more.
I am an absolute basketball beginner so I was a bit scared but I always make excuses not to do things for myself. This was actually really fun and liberating since they have free childminding. It was awesome being active, learning something new and meeting new people. I hope we have even more beginners join in too:) Thanks Brian, Dan and Maddy
I thoroughly enjoyed the FREE women's basketball clinic today @ Logan Metro, first time being involved with the sport, Im looking forward to the future sessions. Thank you Brian Kerle for organising this.
The women's get active session was amazing! I have not enjoyed myself like that in a very long time. Playing basketball with other like minded women and mums is so much more fun than always sitting on the sideline.
I wasn’t sure what to expect as I had never played basketball before. I was amazed by the entire 2 hour session. Loads of fun for all levels, very inclusive, with a great atmosphere. Can’t wait until the next session!!!!
I really hope to see these programs running again next year. I am learning new skills and fine tuning others that are a bit sloppy. All done in a friendly and fun environment.
Fun, exciting, great to make new friends, coaches and trainers friendly and accomadating, great way to learn basketball skills
Thank you for this awesome program! I had a blast!
Had such a great time at the 2hour basketball session, Brian & his team have done a wonderful job, babysitting was all sorted for those few hourS, which took that extra stress off. My heart pumped so hard & fast, I haven't felt like that since I was a kid. Thankyou Brian Kerle & his team, looking forward to more training sessions.
Great way to get active and meet others. Awesome Brian and team.
Today was my first time with the Woman’s programme at Logan Metro. I absolutely loved it! Nice facilities, professional friendly coaching, great bunch of ladies in a relaxed environment. I loved the skill development sessions and especially the free child minding. This is a perfect environment for me to fit in some fun exercise without the kids... can’t recommend this programme enough!!!
Every week I find myself getting better, more fitter and shooting pointers I never thought I had it in me. Before joining Brian Kerle & his team I'm pretty sure I was on the brink of a chronic unhealthy illness Thankyou so much for getting me up and active with the free childcare makes life a lot easier with littlies. This program needs to continue, it's fantastic, the encouragement from the whole team is very empowering and makes me look forward to coming every week.
My daughter is 7years old and absolutely loves her basketball trainings with Brian and Dave and the other helpers. Her confidence in basketball has improved. She enjoys meeting new friends. Thanks for making this activity accessible to our family 😁
The session today (28/11/17) was AWESOME! I absolutely loved it. Was great to be able to get on the court for a run and shoot around.... great when you get off the court and you realised how puffed you are! Fun way to exercise. The drills were instructed really well, and tried to use the skills learnt in the final game we played. I will definitely be telling my friends about the Get Out Get Active event, and I will be going every week its on!!! Please make the event longer than 6 weeks!"
This is truly a great way to get fit, in the company of awesome women playing a sport that my boys love! Thank you Brian and team! Here's hoping the program continues for good, 6wks isn't enough!
These sessions have been such great motivation for me to finally get back into improving my strength and fitness. I’m so grateful for this opportunity to exercise and develop my basketball skills whilst having a laugh with other women I’ve met through this program.
LOVE getting active with knowledgeable coaches, alongside new friends, in a safe space, learning new skills and boosting my Bball IQ! My daughter loves the girls sessions and says they are “AMAZING!”
My kids always look forward to their sessions. It’s fun and interactive but they also learn good ball skills that they can practise in their own time. It’s such a great programme and I feel fortunate that this programme has been funded so it gives my children the opportunity to be a part of this great programme. Thanks for making every session a great one. We love it!!
I am so thrilled with this sports initiative for women! Thank you so much for, not only the opportunity, but also the quality of the training program. The sessions have been so well run and the dynamics in the groups have been very inclusive and encouraging. I am looking forward to (hopefully) many more sessions, and as I am also passionate about helping women to get back into sport, have been telling my friends to come along so they too can gain skills and have a good workout whilst enjoying themselves!
Sessions have been great, I'm not a beginner but being able to improve my techniques in an environment without any pressure is something I had been wanting to do. Add some fitness and social interaction and the sessions are a great way to get out and be active, Love seeing the ladies new to the sport having a great time and learning new skills. Looking forward to getting to as many sessions as I can."
Love the get-active clinic training. Fun way to exercise and get fit. The coaches were helpful and supportive. It’s great to be on the court, fun meeting new people , training and playing basketball with women and mums . Thank you Brian and other coaches for your encouragement and being Patience with the newbies. :-)
Please do this on the Northside of Brisbane. Our kids are starved for something like this!
I'm really enjoying our sessions. We covered a lot in our last session and there were lots of "aha" moments for everyone as we start to understand the game and techniques more. I love that we have access to the free childminding, so I can have some productive timeout. We're making friends and getting fitter in a really supportive, fun environment - great for the body, mind and soul!
I have been to 2 of the Get Out, Get Active sessions so far and they have been fantastic!! It's great to be able to get out, meet new people, learn new skills and have fun! The coaching staff make it enjoyable and run the sessions really professionally. I have just started playing basketball this year and have already seen the benefits of these sessions in being able to put into practice some of the skills I've learnt in my games. I will definitely be attending as many of the sessions as I can and encouraging my friends to come along! It would be awesome if this program could run all next year!!
I have attended two sessions of the "Get Out Get Active" Program for Women so far and have thoroughly enjoyed both. They were extremely well planned, lots of fun and the coaching staff were superb. I commend those responsible for initiating this much needed program for women.
My first time to this clinic today, it was awesome. So good to be doing some skills training then incorporate it into a game at the end of the session. David was great, heaps of tips and encouragement. The session suited all skill levels and ages. All the ladies were friendly and keen to learn. I would attend every week if l could. Thanks David.
I learnt alot of new ball handling and shooting skills that I think will help my on court game. It was fun and enjoyable.
