BK in Charleville & Cunnamulla
The Brian Kerle Basketball Academy team went regional this week with a trip out to Charleville and Cunnamulla. The trip is part of the BK Regional Outreach Project to provide services to rural and country towns and ensure that all young people get equal opportunity and access to quality coaching and mentoring.
The goal of the trip was to impact lives and inspire the youth in Charleville and Cunnamulla. The team worked with over 200 young people and visited primary schools, sporting clubs, and high schools in the area.
BK Academy members Harry Armstrong, Jacob Gray, Darcy Ryder, Jess McDowell-White, Toby Kerle, and Christian Pang made up our team of mentors for the trip. Each bringing a unique perspective on basketball and life for the young people.
The team got overwhelmingly positive reviews from the community leaders, teachers, coaches, parents, and staff. “They worked amazingly with our students, like the best I’ve seen in a long time” said one teacher. “They kept them engaged, stepped in, and kept eyes on them at all times and were on top of encouraging them.”
The BK Regional Outreach Project is a truly rewarding and uplifting experience for our coaches “It means a lot to me to come out to these regional towns, because growing up in Emerald, I didn’t get any basketball programs come out to visit me.” said coach Harry Armstrong.
We are proud of the work we do regionally, and will continue to do so with the BK Regional Tour of Wide Bay with stops in Maryborough, Hervey Bay, and Gympie from the 26th to the 29th of September.
