NAIDOC 3 x 3: Culture Meets Basketball
Brian Kerle Basketball’s NAIDOC 3x3 Tournament ran successfully for its third year. This event is put on completely free of charge so that all young basketball players can compete and have fun. The event promotes community and youth engagement whilst celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture.
This year’s event was the biggest in BK NAIDOC 3x3 history, with 100 teams registering, bringing together 500 young people and over 1,500 people from the community together for a day of culture, basketball, friendship and fun.
It was heartwarming to see sponsors and supporters of all cultures contribute to making the day possible. Their generosity made the event free for the young people in what was the biggest youth basketball event in Queensland.
There is truly no event like the NAIDOC 3x3 Tournament. Where young people can play and be a part of something bigger for free. Hosting 100 teams at a free event has never been done before in a basketball setting, and we hope to be able to do even bigger and better events like this in the future for the benefit of the community.
Our number one goal is to help as many young people as possible reach their potential. We believe events like this galvanise the community, whilst giving young people something to look forward to and work towards. It gives them a safe space and makes them feel part of something bigger than themselves.
One young person on the day mentioned that the event “brings together people from all over and it’s so much fun. It’s amazing how many people are here”. We hope to continue to create an environment where young people feel like they belong.
We will see you at NAIDOC 2026!
